My girls love to cook, bake, and get creative. The holidays provide us with an excellent excuse to do all three! Today, we decided to whip up this simple Sugared Snowflakes recipe, a delightful dessert that requires just three ingredients.
And the best part? Just like real snowflakes, no two will look the same! Here’s how to create your own sugared snowflakes.
3-Ingredient Sugared Snowflake Christmas Cookies Recipe
Ingredients:
- wonton wrappers
- powdered sugar
- cooking oil
- blue sugar (optional, found here)
- kitchen scissors (a pair like this is ideal and costs less than $8)
You can find wonton wrappers in the refrigerated section of your local grocery store. They usually cost under $2, and you get a lot in each package! Regarding your scissors, ensure they are cleaned and sanitized. You can achieve this with a food-safe sanitizing spray or simply with hot water and soap. After washing, make sure to DRY your scissors thoroughly before use.
Directions:
- Start by separating the wonton wrappers into individual sheets. Though they won’t be sticky, dusting the board with a little powdered sugar can make them easier to handle.
- Now, fold the small sheet of wonton as you would a paper snowflake. You will make three folds in total. First, join the corners together to form a triangle. Then fold it in half and refold until you have completed three folds.
- It’s time for some fun! Use your scissors to carefully trim the wonton wrapper just like you would with paper. Cut small triangles, snip edges, and create any design you prefer.
- Once you finish cutting, gently unfold your wonton wrapper.
- Now you have a beautiful snowflake shape! This step requires adult supervision. Heat your oil in a saucepan until ready for frying. Make sure not to heat the oil too much, or your wontons will burn. Keep the oil at medium heat until you see slight swirling.
- USE TONGS to slowly drop the snowflake into the hot oil. It will puff up quickly! Let it brown on each side for about 10 seconds.
- After lightly browning the snowflakes, use the tongs to remove them from the oil and let them drain on a paper towel. Immediately sprinkle with powdered sugar.
How stunning are these? If you’d like, you can also add blue sugar sprinkles or granulated sugar on top. Either way, these sugared snowflakes offer a delightful taste and are a real treat! The kids enjoyed cutting out their snowflakes, and we all had fun indulging in them.
