5 Tips for Managing Laundry in the Housewife Corner

5 Tips for Managing Laundry in the Housewife Corner

Overwhelmed by laundry? Here are some laundry tips to make it more manageable.

“Marriage is about the most expensive way for the average man to get laundry done.”

– Burt Reynolds

5 Laundry Tips

1. Set a timer. This will help you remember to transfer your laundry to the dryer, and it will also remind you when it’s time to take them out and fold them.

2. Do your laundry early in the day. I used to try to squeeze in one more load before bed, but most of the time that load never made it to the dryer, forcing me to wash it twice.

3. Wash one or two loads a day. Before moving into our house, we lived in an apartment with three washers and dryers. I would procrastinate doing laundry, spending an entire day washing everything.

I would have six loads running simultaneously, and after finishing those, I would start on the next batch. As I lived on the third floor, lugging the laundry up and down the stairs all day left me with no energy to fold and put it all away.

The clothes would just stay in the basket, and we would pick our outfits from there. The next time I did laundry, I’d find clothes that had never been worn because they got mixed in with the dirty ones. It was inefficient, and I dreaded spending the entire day on laundry.

Now, I tackle one to two loads every day. This approach is much more manageable and prevents laundry from becoming an overwhelming chore.

4. Fold your clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer. A tip I got from my husband is to shake out the t-shirts and stack them in a pile, making it easier to hang them later.

If I find myself procrastinating on laundry (like if I’m downstairs and not ready to go upstairs yet), I will at least do this step so they don’t get wrinkled. It’s also a more efficient way to put them back.

5. Hang your clothes. Hanging clothes is faster than folding them. Your closet is valuable real estate, so use velvet hangers to maximize space and make your closet look nicer. The difference can be remarkable.

If you have clothes that you seldom wear, consider storing those in your drawers instead of hanging them (and if you never wear them, think about getting rid of them!). Check out this trick to maximize your drawer space.

6. Use wool dryer balls to reduce drying time. Toss these in with your laundry to improve air circulation and decrease drying time.
