Organizing Your Junk Drawer: A Transformation Journey

Ahh, the dreaded junk drawer! We all have one, and if you’re denying it, you’re among the few. It’s the place where we toss all the “someday” items we collect alongside scattered pens, pencils, scissors, and more.

Time to Get Our Junk Drawers Cleaned Out

I recently decided that our two junk drawers urgently needed a makeover. This prompted a trip to my happy place—the Container Store! After getting momentarily lost in organizational bliss, I made my way to the drawer organizing section.

So many choices!

Choosing My Junk Drawer Organizer

I wanted an organizer with numerous small compartments to neatly separate all our items for easy access. After reviewing several options, I ultimately decided on tiered organization trays. They fit perfectly in our drawers and provide double the storage with their tiered design!

Before my visit, I made sure to measure the drawers to ensure that my chosen organizers would fit perfectly.

Once I returned home, I was excited to begin the drawer transformation after spending way too much time at The Container Store!

Clearing Out and Cleaning the Drawers

First, I removed everything from the drawers, revealing significant markings left by the junk.

I used a Magic Eraser, and in no time, the drawers looked brand new! Quick tip: always spot test before using the eraser on any surface to ensure the paint won’t come off.

Sorting, Decluttering, and Getting Everything Organized

I sorted through everything in the drawers, separated items into distinct piles, and disposed of anything that was useless or misplaced. Once the drawers were emptied, I fitted the organizers.

To prevent the organizers from sliding around, I placed command strips on the bottoms of each container.

Finally, I began filling the compartments with all the items. Although the tray came with stickers for labeling compartments, I opted not to use them.

I’m thrilled with how the drawers turned out! It’s now a breeze to find what we need. The drawer organizers provided the perfect fit and an innovative sliding top tray, all at a great price.

Now it’s your turn! Choose a drawer, any drawer, and declutter and organize it! It may seem small, but it can spark motivation to tackle larger projects!
