Organizing the Space Under the Kitchen Sink: A Guide from Housewife Corner
Organizing Under the Kitchen Sink
Have you ever considered organizing under the kitchen sink? This often-neglected area in our homes can become a dumping ground for junk and unnecessary items. But with a little effort, it can transform into a tidy, beautiful space!

In our home, the cabinet under the kitchen sink is a catch-all for assorted bottles, boxes, paper towels, and packaged household items. Typically, it is a complete disaster, with dishwashing detergent and soap often spilling across the bottom of the cabinet. It’s certainly not a space you’d feel proud to show off!
But that can change!
Keeping this area tidy and organized—and making it appealing—should be a priority since we access it multiple times a day. The good news is, it’s a small space, which means you can clean and organize it quickly, inspiring you to tackle larger areas thereafter.
I’ve been eager to organize my own under-sink space, and I found inspiration from my friend Abby’s website, where she showcased a wonderful organizational project just like what I envisioned!
Get Organized!
Here is a list of items you can use to help you get organized.
Featured Items
Here’s a list of products that can help you get organized:
- Multi-Surface Cleaner: Powerful cleaning without harsh chemicals—ideal for non-porous surfaces, and it smells great!
- Magic Eraser Cleaning Pads: Perfect for tackling stubborn dirt, grime, and stains.
- Shelf Liner: I love the floral design of the contact paper I used. It was effortless to install.
- Plastic Storage Containers: Use a few leftover containers under the sink! I just needed a couple more to complete the organization.
- Glass Dispenser: For my rinse aid, I opted for a clear glass olive oil dispenser.
- Scalloped Labels: I created printable labels for my containers using these scalloped label sheets.
- Plastic Basket: A great way to keep your cleaning supplies organized.
- Paper Towel Holder: Get a holder that dispenses one sheet at a time to prevent messy unraveling.
- Scented Candle: An open candle keeps the cabinet smelling fresh and clean.
- Cabinet Basket Organizer: Perfect for storing your cleaning products if space allows under the sink.
The First Step of Organizing Under the Kitchen Sink: Clear It Out
To start organizing under my kitchen sink, I pulled everything out to create a clean slate for myself.

Declutter, Donate & Throw Out Useless Junk
With everything out, I sorted through the contents, discarding items that didn’t belong. I created a donate pile for a couple of items and tossed the majority in the trash!
Clean the Space
After I sorted, I cleaned the surface using my go-to products: paper towels, a multi-surface cleaner, and a Magic Eraser.

It took just a few minutes to wipe it down, leaving it looking fresh and new.

I wanted this space to look appealing, not only organized. The easiest way? Self-adhesive paper!
After searching for beautiful options, I chose Con-Tact Paper. I was thrilled when it arrived—it was perfect!

Applying it was simple, and I appreciated the grid on the back for measuring and cutting.
Plan the Space Based on What Makes Sense for You
After applying the paper, I considered what would make the most sense to store under the sink. For us, the essentials included paper towels, garbage bags, dish detergent, rinse-aid, extra sponges, and cleaning supplies.

This simplicity is all we need. Tailor your list based on your essentials, avoiding the temptation to turn this space into a clutter zone.
Choose Storage Options That Work Best for Your Space and Needs
Now that I knew what would go under the sink, it was time to select containers that provide a uniform look. I utilized some unused OXO containers and a small basket for cleaning supplies.

The clear OXO containers allow me to see when I’m low on supplies. If they aren’t within your budget, there are many affordable alternatives available. I selected a sturdy paper towel holder that has received excellent reviews to keep everything neat.

Most organizational products for under the sink unfortunately don’t suit my space because of the drawer and pipes. While they may not work for me, they could be a great option for you!
Spruce up Your Containers With Labels
I placed everything in their designated containers and labeled them using Avery scalloped labels, which added a beautiful touch.

I’m delighted with how it turned out! Inspired by my success, I decided to create a printable version of these labels for anyone looking to spruce up their own cabinet.
Place Everything Back in the Cabinet
In the end, I neatly returned everything to the cabinet. I arranged the items towards the front since the pipes and tubes fill the back space.

As a final tip, I keep an unlit Mrs. Meyer’s candle under the sink to leave a fresh scent whenever I open it!

The Perfect Project to Start Getting Your Home Organized
I am thrilled with how this space looks now! Even my kids took notice, exclaiming, “Wow, it looks great!” without any prompting from me! Organizing under the kitchen sink was straightforward and fulfilling. If you’re searching for a manageable project to start with, I highly recommend this one! You’ll have it looking fabulous in no time and will be motivated to take on larger tasks!
